Antenna Switch Automatically Toggles Between Two Radios

Large boats often have two VHF radios on board, but only one antenna to service them. In the past, switching from one radio to another has been bothersome. The boater needed to either manually disconnect the first radio from the antenna and then attach the second, or install a manually operated coaxial switch. Even more frustrating, when the boater moved between upper and lower helm stations, he often overlooked these procedures, resulting in the need for a second trip.
 The V-Tronix AS-2 Automatic Switch, by Shakespeare, simplifies this situation by automatically managing the access of two radios to one antenna. Whenever the microphone is keyed on one of the radios, that unit is immediately connected to the antenna. It stays connected until the other radio is keyed.
The 50-ohm AS-2 handles up to 30 watts of power, operates on 12 volts DC and draws just 200 milliamps. The cast aluminum case features SO-239 connectors for attaching coax to the radios and antennas.
